Girls Made Of Snow And Glass: Melissa Bashardoust

This book is for those of you who love fantasy and royalty. This read will bring you on a journey with Lynet and Mina as they both find out that they are not what people tell them they are. Girls Made Of Snow And Glass is a beautiful, heart wrenching rewrite of the classic “Snow White”, only in this story the damsels in distress save themselves by breaking free from the men who hold them back. In this story Mina, the not so evil stepmother, comes to learn that her cold heart does not mean she is incapable of love. She comes to this realization because Lynet, her not so delicate step-daughter, was able to find the strength to break free from the person everyone wanted her to be. If you are look for a read that not only shine’s a beautiful light on feminism and the struggles of women, but also has wonderful queer rep, then you should read Girls Made Of Snow And Glass.

Girl Serpent Thorn, by Melissa Bashardoust

This "You Should Read" is Girl Serpent Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust. Now, Girl Serpent Thorn is one of my personal favourites, with its truly rich story constantly leaving you on the edge of your seat. In this book you get to join Soraya on her journey to discovering who she is, or rather, what she is. Twist at every corner, the unknowings of whether you should love or hate a character, and the constant need to know whats next, girl serpent thorn is definitely the book for you cliffhanger lovers. Not only is this book filled with mystery, but it is an incredible fantasy story too.

Spoiler warning for what I am going to say next. Soraya is a girl who is deadly to the touch, all she wants is to know the feeling of another human's skin against her own. There is only one living thing she can touch without it perishing, and that is plants, so she has a lush rose garden outside her room. Oh, and did I mention she is a princess, but to her, she is like the royal family's disgrace. Meeting new people, loving then hating them, being torn between two homes, Soraya has to choose her family, or her freedom. If you want to know more, then you'd better pick up the magnificent read and dig in. And one last thing, this book has queer rep! That all for this episode of "You Should Read."
