By: Priya MigneaultThe world is a bit nuts right now and I think we could all use a bit positivity in our lives, which is why I've decided to create a weekly update about great things happing on our planet. This week Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds donated 1 million dollars that was split between Feeding America and Food Banks Canada in response to COVID-19. They did this because they are aware that this virus is not only going to affect our physical health, but also financial health. They are not the only ones who have realized this, food banks in stores have been over flowing with canned goods since this pandemic started. If you are one of the people who have contributed to food banks in the past or recently thank you. Chef José Andrés has closed down his 5-star restaurants in New York City and Washington, D.C. and turned them into soup kitchens for people in need. He did this in response to COVID-19 and it's economic impacts for those who are already struggling to make ends meet. Andrés has said that the kitchen employees will be asking for $7 per to go meal, but they will provide meals to those who cannot pay as well. Andrés also runs a charity called 'World Central Kitchen', which has been providing meals to thousands of students and families during the school closures. The charity has also been providing meals to those stranded on cruise ships because of the pandemic. In these past weeks we have seen the world come together and strive towards a common goal. Scientists from around the globe are pushing limits to develop a COVID-19 vaccine. Just a few days ago a team of Canadian scientists announced that they were able to isolate the virus and recreate it in lab, which provides us with more data towards developing a vaccine. The first human trial vaccine happened 2-3 days ago and the world is waiting to see the results. China has closed all of it's 16 temporary COVID-19 hospitals because they no longer have enough new cases. This has lead China to send doctors and medical supplies overseas to Italy to help them cope with the amount of people infected. On the boxes of the medical supplies it reads, "We are waves from the same sea, leaves from the same tree, flowers from the same garden." We are coming together and there is a lot to be hopeful about. If have any stories of hope that occur this week lets us know in the comments to be featured in next weeks 'weekly dose of hope'.
